The Cambridgeshire Steam Rally was launched in July 2009 by a small team of Vintage and Classic Vehicle Enthusiasts who between them have over 50 years of rally experience. The Rally took over the dates of the old dates of the old Wood Green Steam Rally at the Wood Green Animal Centre at Godmanchester Cambs., that had run for some 19 years. The small Committee relaunched the Rally on a lovely grassland site in Swavesey Cambs., next to the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway (formerly the Cambridge – St Ives railway line) where it grew nicely over the next 5 years when unfortunately the site was sold. Not to be beaten by this minor hiccup the Committee set about the task of finding a new venue in Cambridgeshire. After various enquiries the Committee were offer Quy Park at Stow-Cum-Quy just the north-east of Cambridge. ( see the Where are we Tab) In spite of all this the Rally has gone from strength to strength and is now supported by over 400 exhibitors with a good variety of Trade and a striving Craft Marquee together with many other attractions for the visitors to browse around over the weekend. (see relevant Tabs for details) This year the committee has faced an uphill battle to stage the event after a very wet set up and an even wetter Sunday on the weekend of last years Rally, however despite this there will be many vintage vehicles and other forms of entertainment for the visiting public to see over the weekend including The Great Kondini with his amazing Fire Stunt Show and Jezo the Magician for the younger ones (ok and us older ones too). For the Music lovers amongst you we have the Lowestoft Signing Choir showing off their Signing skills – it really is a moving experience to watch and listen. There will also be a wide variety of food outlets. (see the Food Tab for details) Oh and have I mentioned that we also have a Beer Tent offering a few Beers, some of them local. So come and join us for a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, and a chat while enjoying a little trip down memory lane. ENJOY From the Team.
